Tree-Vitalization of the Valley Continues

Next Workday - February 18th

Thanks to the efforts of dedicated Coalition staff, community volunteers, Andrews and Cherokee County park staff, crews from the Oconoluftee Job Corps Center, and local inmates, 1,680 native trees and shrubs were planted along the Valley River in 2011! The next volunteer workday will be held on Saturday, February 18th, weather pending, from 12:00-4:00 p.m. at the Cherokee County Heritage Park in Andrews. The workday is open to anyone interested in helping. No previous experience is necessary. Holes for the trees will be pre-drilled, such that heavy digging is not required. Gloves and shovels will be available for those who need them. Water and other refreshments will also be provided. The Cherokee County Heritage Park is located behind Andrews Rec. Park, along Valley River. Can’t make it on this date, but want to help? Contact Tony Ward, HRWC Restoration Coordinator, at (828) 837-5414 ext. 203 or restore@hrwc.net to be added to the contact list for future opportunities to volunteer.

Coalition Ambassadors Sought

One of our biggest hurtles associated with recruiting new members and donations is publicity - educating those living, working, and recreating in the watershed about who we are and what we do. What's the best form of publicity? Word of mouth! Enter the Coalition Ambassadors! What is involved with becoming an Ambassador? Attending one fun gathering here at the Coalition office to learn some standardized language we're all using to describe the organization, receive fact sheets and information about current projects in each county to keep in your car for distribution, and register to be notified about meetings and events where we need member support.

Once you have agreed to participate, you'll receive an official Coalition Ambassador name badge and a free logo item of your choice (hat, t-shirt, etc). Deeply discounted or free attendance to Coalition events will be an additional benefit of being an Ambassador. Contact Callie Moore to volunteer!
