VALLEY RIVER WATERSHED RESTORATION PROJECTS:

STREAM RESTORATION PROCESS:

1. Identify Sites

   • Hold meeting to let folks in the community know about the program

   • Review landowner applications

2. Meet with Landowners

   • Discuss soil and water concerns

   • Hear landowners' objectives for property

   • Discuss solutions

   • Negotiate written conservation easement

3. Engineering Services

   • Professional Engineers

   • Knowledge & experience with stream restoration work

   • Natural channel design principles

4. Contractors

   • Must be local (primarily Cherokee or Clay counties, NC)

   • Must have proper equipment, insurance and references to qualify

   • Projects over $40K must have license

5. Following Completion

   • Easement registered with property deed at the County office

   • Follow-up monitoring will be conducted by District and/or Coalition
